Château Mouton Rothschild is a Premier Cru Classé (First Growth) wine from the prestigious Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, France. This 3-liter double magnum format offers an iconic red Bordeaux crafted from one of the world's most renowned estates, elevated to First Growth status in 1973 — the only change ever made to the original 1855 Classification.
The vineyard spans 83 hectares on the famed Mouton Plateau, with vines averaging 50 years of age, some dating back to 1890. The blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon (81%) with Merlot (15%), Cabernet Franc (3%), and Petit Verdot (1%), grown in deep gravel, rock, and sand over limestone soils. The wine is vinified in 64 large temperature-controlled oak vats and aged in 100% new French oak barrels for 19 to 22 months.
Mouton Rothschild is celebrated for its flamboyant style among the First Growths, offering Asian spices, opulent textures, and an exotic personality with incredible depth, concentration, and purity. The 3-liter format allows for slower, more graceful aging. Best served at 15.5°C (60°F), it pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes including beef, lamb, veal, duck, and game. Young vintages benefit from 3 to 6 hours of decanting and typically reach peak maturity between 18 and 60 years of age.
