Château Angélus is one of Bordeaux's most prestigious estates, located in the Saint-Émilion appellation on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux wine region. This 3-liter double magnum format showcases the estate's Grand Vin, a wine that earned Premier Grand Cru Classé status in 1996 and was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" — the highest tier in Saint-Émilion — in 2012.
The estate is owned and managed by the Boüard de Laforest family, with Hubert de Boüard overseeing winemaking in consultation with renowned oenologist Michel Rolland. The vineyard spans 23.4 hectares planted with approximately 51% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The name derives from the three Angelus bells audible from the vineyards. Annual production of the Grand Vin averages 10,000 cases, making this a sought-after and relatively scarce wine.
The wine is matured in new French oak barrels, contributing complexity and structure. It is known for its rich, full-bodied profile with dark fruit, spice, and earthy notes typical of Saint-Émilion's limestone and clay soils. The large-format 3-liter bottle is ideal for long-term cellaring and is considered a collector's piece, as wines in magnum and larger formats often age more gracefully than standard bottles.
