Celler Vall Llach Carignan is a red wine from the prestigious Priorat DOCa appellation in Catalonia, Spain. This single-varietal expression showcases Carignan (Cariñena) sourced from old vines planted 60 to 90 years ago in the rugged, llicorella (slate and quartz) soils that define the region. Priorat is one of only two Spanish appellations to hold DOCa status, the country's highest wine classification, and is celebrated for producing intensely concentrated, mineral-driven red wines.
Celler Vall Llach was founded in the early 1990s in the village of Porrera by Catalan singer-songwriter Lluís Llach and winemaker Enric Costa. The estate is devoted to preserving heritage old-vine plantings and crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir of Priorat. The Mas de la Rosa designation references a specific estate vineyard. Old-vine Carignan from this region yields wines of remarkable depth, with characteristic flavors of dark fruit, slate minerality, dried herbs, and spice, often with a firm tannic structure that rewards cellaring. The wine is typically aged in French oak to add complexity while preserving the varietal's natural acidity and terroir character.
