Argiano Non Confunditur is a Super Tuscan red blend from the Toscana IGT appellation in Tuscany, Italy, produced by the historic Argiano estate. The name "Non Confunditur" — meaning "unique" — comes from the Argiano family motto inscribed on the entrance to the estate's ancient cellars, a fitting tribute to this distinctive wine that blends international varieties with indigenous Sangiovese.
The blend features Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese, aged for six months in a combination of second and third-use French barriques, large Slavonian oak barrels, and stainless steel, followed by three months of bottle aging before release. The result is a full-bodied, dry red wine with under 1 gram per liter of residual sugar and 14% alcohol by volume.
Tasting notes reveal a deep ruby color with aromas of ripe cherry, red berries, dried herbs (sage and mint), and a characteristic Mediterranean scrub quality. On the palate, the wine delivers dark cherry, black licorice, and a mineral backbone, while soft tannins and lively acidity carry through to a long, savory finish. The wine opens and improves noticeably with breathing or decanting.
Critically acclaimed across multiple vintages with scores ranging from 89 to 93 points — including a 93 from James Suckling and 92 from Wine Spectator — this wine pairs beautifully with pasta in red sauce, grilled meats, and hard cheeses.
