Château Léoville Las Cases 2017 is a prestigious Second Growth (Deuxième Cru) Bordeaux from the Saint-Julien appellation, sold as a case of six 750mL bottles. This estate is widely regarded as one of the finest producers in Bordeaux, consistently performing at the level of a First Growth.
The 2017 vintage is composed of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Merlot, aged in 90% new French oak barrels. Harvest took place September 15 through October 4, with rigorous selection resulting in only 7% press wine used in the final blend. The wine showcases aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, crushed rock, graphite, pencil shavings, and violet, with a palate of ripe dark fruits, plum reduction, smoldering tobacco, and an iron-edged finish. Tannins are ultrafine and the structure is built for long-term cellaring.
Critics scored this vintage between 96 and 98 points across Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, James Suckling, Jeb Dunnuck, and Decanter. The recommended drinking window is 2023–2040, with 5–7 years of additional bottle age advised for optimal expression.
