Dwarf cherry tree available in assorted varieties, perfect for home gardeners seeking fresh cherries without the space requirements of full-sized trees. These #2 grade trees come in a 1.0 gallon (3.8 liter) container, ready for planting. Dwarf cherry trees typically grow 12 to 15 feet high and wide, making them ideal for smaller yards and gardens. Popular varieties may include Stella, Lapins, Black Gold (sweet and self-pollinating), Bing, Rainier, or tart cherry varieties. Trees on dwarf rootstock maintain their compact size while producing full-sized fruit. These trees require full sun with excellent air circulation and well-drained, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0. Most sweet cherry varieties need a compatible pollinator planted nearby for fruit production, while tart cherries are often self-fertile. Dwarf cherries should be spaced 5 to 10 feet apart. Trees benefit from a mulch of well-rotted organic matter in spring and require pruning in late winter to encourage new fruiting wood. With proper care, healthy cherry trees will bear fruit for twenty years or more. Cold hardy to USDA zones 5-8 depending on variety. Early spring bloomers may need protection from late frosts in some regions.
