Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon is Margaret River's original and most iconic red wine, produced continuously since 1972 by the founding estate of Western Australia's Margaret River wine region. Established in 1967 by Dr. Tom Cullity, Vasse Felix helped define Margaret River as a world-class wine destination, and this Cabernet Sauvignon remains a benchmark for the region's signature style.
This 750ml bottle is a structured Bordeaux-style blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon (89%), with Malbec (10%) adding vibrant dark fruit character and softness, and a touch of Merlot (1%) providing balance and a dynamic finish. Grapes are sourced from vines planted on the slopes of the Wilyabrup sub-region, on iron-rich, gravelly-loam soils. Each variety is vinified individually before blending, then aged for 17 months in French oak barriques (37% new, 63% used), followed by additional bottle aging before release.
On the nose, the wine opens with ripe dark cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry, and black plum, layered with pencil lead, wet granite, black pepper, cloves, tobacco leaf, toasted oak, and a signature eucalyptus lift. The palate is firm, bold, and velvety, with high acidity, fine-grained grippy tannins, and a long, persistent finish. The wine is best enjoyed after 3–5 additional years of cellaring, though it is already harmonious and approachable.
Pairs well with herb-crusted rack of lamb, roasted red meats, aged cheeses, and rich, savory dishes. Sold in a case of 6 × 750ml bottles.
