Nuestra Soledad Matatlan is a single-village mezcal produced in Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca, Mexico — a town widely considered the mezcal capital of the world. This expression is crafted from 100% agave Espadín grown at elevations between 5,500 and 5,900 feet, surrounded by a rich diversity of wild agave species including Tepeztate, Tobala, and Coyote.

The agave hearts are roasted in traditional pit ovens over mesquite and oak, then fermented in open-air wooden vats and double distilled in copper alembic stills. The result is a joven (unaged) mezcal bottled at approximately 47% ABV, made by producers Gregorio Martinez Jarquin and Valentin Cortes under the El Jolgorio family of mezcals.

On the nose, expect pepper, citrus, earth, and subtle smoke with floral and fruit notes of cherry and banana. The palate is peppery with agave sweetness, vanilla, dried fruit, and mineral complexity. The finish is medium length with lingering spice and smoke — refined and balanced for an Espadín expression.
