Joseph Drouhin Corton Grand Cru is a prestigious red Burgundy wine from Maison Joseph Drouhin, one of Burgundy's most esteemed négociant-éleveurs. Sourced from the Grand Cru appellation of Corton on the celebrated Hill of Corton — straddling the communes of Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny, and Pernand-Vergelesses — this is one of the very few red Grand Crus produced in the Côte de Beaune. The vineyards sit on a steep, south-east-facing slope with well-drained clay and limestone soils, compelling the Pinot Noir vines to root deeply for water and nutrients, producing concentrated, complex fruit.
The wine is crafted from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, hand-harvested in open-work crates and carefully sorted. Vinification involves 20–50% whole-cluster fermentation with 2–3 weeks of maceration in small open vats, using only indigenous natural yeasts. The wine is aged 16 to 20 months in French oak barrels, approximately 30% of which are new, imparting gentle structure without overwhelming the terroir. As described by winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin, the wine presents a deep color with a powerful nose of candied fruit and spice. On the palate it is structured yet velvety, with a long, complex finish recalling the candied fruit from the nose.
Optimal drinking window is 15 to 20 years from vintage, with an aging potential of up to 30 years. Best served at 16°C (61°F). This 750ml bottle makes an exceptional cellar addition or special occasion wine.
