Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a flagship offering from the winery's Appellation Series, celebrating some of California's most celebrated cool-climate terroir. The Sonoma Coast is the largest appellation in Sonoma County, strongly influenced by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and heavy rainfall — producing growing conditions markedly cooler and wetter than inland Sonoma vineyards — and has earned wide acclaim for producing world-class Pinot Noir.
This wine is sourced from multiple estate and partner vineyards across both the northern true coastal zone and the southern edge of the appellation, including Treehouse, Thorn Ridge, Gap's Crown, Marshall Ranch, Pratt, Balletto, Mardikian, and Winner's Circle. Vines are planted on Goldridge loam soils and trained using VSP (Vertical Shoot Positioning) trellising, with a diverse selection of clones — 2A, 15, 23, Swan, Calera, Pommard, 113, 114, 115, and 828 — contributing complexity to the final blend.
Fermentation employs a deliberate mix of vessels: 81% stainless steel, 11% wood, 8% concrete, and 1% whole cluster, preserving freshness and site purity. The wine then ages for 15 months in French oak (38% new), along with wood cask and a small portion of new Austrian oak, building structure without overpowering the fruit. The result delivers deep, illuminating hues and aromas of ripe red and blue fruit — boysenberry, blueberry, and fresh-cut strawberry — with an undertone of forest rain. On the palate, the wine is soft and smooth, with pure electric dark berry flavors, well-integrated tannins that add volume, and a refined, uplifting finish. Alcohol: 14.1% ABV.
