Founded in 2006 and distilling since 2012, the duo brought scientific expertise and decades of fermentation industry experience to craft one of Kentucky's most acclaimed independent distilleries.

What sets Wilderness Trail apart is their proprietary sweet mash process, a departure from the sour mash technique used by most Kentucky bourbon producers. This method yields exceptional batch-to-batch consistency and contributes to the distillery's signature clean, approachable character. The bourbon is distilled in copper columns, aged 6 years in premium Cooper select barrels crafted with 18-month air-dried staves, and bottled non-chill filtered to preserve its full flavor integrity. The high rye mash bill — 64% corn, 24% rye, and 12% malted barley — drives a bold, spice-forward profile.

On the nose, look for butterscotch, ripe peach, and red apple with hints of malt and oak. The palate opens with brown sugar and malt, followed by rye bread character, cinnamon, and black pepper, smoothed by charred oak and citrus. The finish is long and satisfying with oak spices, toffee, and dark fruit.
