Kirkland Signature Suscol Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a single vineyard Napa Valley red wine made exclusively for Costco by winemaker Jeff McBride, the former VP of Winemaking at Benziger Family Winery, and cellared by DC Flynt MW Selections. The Suscol Vineyard is located in southern Napa Valley and has a cool mountain climate that produces a full, rich Cabernet Sauvignon profile. Select blocks from this prestigious vineyard were used to create this wine, with other notable producers like Cakebread, Nickel & Nickel, and Alta also sourcing from Suscol for wines priced at $60 and up.
The wine features aromas of plum, blackberry, dark berry fruit, mocha coffee, tobacco, and pencil shavings, framed by vibrant acidity and length. On the palate, it delivers rich fruit with well-integrated spice, good structure, and juicy acidity. The wine is described as deep, dark ruby in color and packed with flavor, offering notes of black fruit, plum, vanilla, dark chocolate, and dusty spice. It ends dry, grippy, quite long, and savory with lingering spice notes under the fruit.
This consistently highly-rated wine has received scores of 91-92 points across multiple vintages from wine reviewers, with the 2022 vintage rating particularly well due to its balanced profile at 13% alcohol. The wine is ready to drink upon release but can also develop with some aging. Reviewers describe it as drinking 2-3 times its price point and checking all the boxes for a quality Napa Cabernet.
