The Glenrothes 40 Year Old is an exceptionally rare and prestigious single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside region of Scotland, bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof) in a 750ml format. Distilled in 1973 and matured for forty years in first fill sherry casks, this limited release represents one of the oldest expressions ever offered by The Glenrothes distillery.

The Glenrothes Distillery was founded in 1879 in the town of Rothes in the heart of Speyside, adjacent to the Burn of Rothes. The distillery uses water sourced from the Ardcanny and Brauchhill springs and produces its spirit through tall, uniquely shaped copper-pot stills — exact replicas of the original 1879 stills — which contribute to the whisky's characteristically light and sweet profile. Only the "hearts" of the distillate, comprising less than 20% of the run, are preserved for maturation.

On the nose, the whisky opens with aromas of toasted malt, ripe fruits, pears, and heathered honey. The palate offers Genoa fruit cake with plump sultanas, creamy vanilla sweetness, candied orange peel, and warming spice, along with notes of dark plums, espresso beans, berries, and dark chocolate. The long finish is accented by hints of vanilla, milk chocolate, citrus, and butterscotch.
