La Rasina Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is a distinguished Italian red wine from the Montalcino appellation in Tuscany, crafted from 100% Sangiovese (Brunello) grapes grown on the estate's hillside vineyards. This wine represents the pinnacle of the DOCG classification, Italy's highest designation for wine quality, and is produced by a fourth-generation family winery with over 120 years of dedication to Sangiovese.
The wine undergoes 24 months of aging in oak barrels of various capacities, followed by an additional 4 months of bottle aging, developing a rich ruby red color and a complex sensory profile. On the nose, expect aromas of oriental spice, liquored fruit, and tea leaves, with hints of black prunes, cloves, and incense. The palate is full-bodied and robust with lingering, well-integrated tannins that reward cellaring. La Rasina practices certified organic and vegan viticulture with minimal intervention, reflecting the family's commitment to genuine, authentic winemaking.
Pair this wine with Mediterranean rack of lamb, NY strip steak, mushroom risotto, game meats, roasts, aged charcuterie, and well-aged cheeses. For optimal enjoyment, open the bottle at least two hours before serving to allow proper oxygenation. The 2017 vintage earned 92 points from James Suckling.
