Bodegas Pujanza Norte is a premium single-vineyard Tempranillo from the Rioja Alavesa subzone, produced by Bodegas y Viñedos Pujanza under the DOC Rioja designation. This wine originates from the Norte vineyard in Laguardia, Álava — a 2.7-hectare plot at 720 metres above sea level planted on clay soils over limestone bedrock. The vineyard's north-facing exposure and the unusually shallow limestone bedrock, just 50 centimetres below the surface, combine with the elevation to give this wine its signature freshness and acidity, maintained with remarkable consistency across vintages.
Made from 100% Tempranillo grapes, the wine undergoes spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and malolactic conversion in stainless-steel vats. It is then aged 12 to 16 months in new French oak barriques, followed by further maturation in concrete vats. The finished wine is bright, intense cherry-red in color, with aromas of wild berries, spices, and well-integrated oak on the nose, underpinned by a stony minerality that reflects the limestone terroir. The palate is full and powerful yet balanced, with firm, non-aggressive tannins, lively acidity, and a highly expressive, persistent fruity finish. Alcohol content is 14.5%. Sealed with a natural cork. Contains sulphites.
Bodegas y Viñedos Pujanza was founded in 1998 by Carlos San Pedro, one of Rioja's leading winemakers and a member of a prominent wine dynasty from Laguardia. Norte has been awarded 96 points by Wine Advocate, cementing its status as one of Rioja's finest single-vineyard expressions. Sold as a case of 6 x 750ML bottles.
