Lingua Franca Avni Pinot Noir is a premium Oregon Pinot Noir sourced from the Eola-Amity Hills appellation within the Willamette Valley. Approximately 32% of the fruit originates from Lingua Franca's own estate vineyard blocks, with the remaining 68% drawn from neighboring vineyards including Hope Well, South Salem Hills, and Yamhill-Carlton sites.
The wine is hand-harvested, sorted, and destemmed before fermenting in stainless steel and cement tanks using wild yeast, with 10% whole-cluster fermentation. It is aged 12 months in French oak barriques (27% new, 73% previously used), followed by an additional 4 months in tank prior to bottling. The result is a focused, flavorful Pinot Noir with a round and velvety texture at 13.0% ABV.
Aromas and flavors include blood orange, dried lavender, smoky clove, crushed stone minerality, black cherry, spice, black tea, fresh herbs, raspberry leaf, pomegranate, sea salt, and tar, with a finish of rose petal. Clive Pursehouse of Decanter awarded it 94 points, noting its "precision and freshness with a savoury lift." The 2022 vintage ranked #16 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 List of 2025.
Pairs well with hot smoked salmon, roasted poultry, and grilled meats. Recommended for enjoyment over the next ten years.
