Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc is an estate-grown white wine from the Wairau Valley in Marlborough, New Zealand, produced by the renowned Henri Bourgeois family of Sancerre, France. After a 12-year search for terroir resembling their native Loire Valley, brothers Jean-Marie and Rémi Bourgeois established Clos Henri in 2000 on 98 hectares in the Wairau Valley, named in honor of their pioneering father. The wine is certified organic and practicing biodynamic, with dry farming techniques that stress the vines to encourage deeper root growth and pure terroir expression from the estate's distinctive stony soils.
This single varietal Sauvignon Blanc strikes a compelling balance between the lean, mineral-driven character of Sancerre and the vibrant freshness of classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The nose offers orchard blossoms, lemon sorbet, honey-drizzled citrus fruit, and a subtle hint of lychee with a signature stony, wet-stone mineral nuance. On the palate, flavors of Meyer lemon, fruity lime, and white peach unfold with lovely texture, just-right acidity, and a long, limey finish with mountain-stream-like transparency. Rated 93 points by both Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling, it pairs beautifully with fresh seafood including oysters, crab, lobster, halibut, and ceviche, as well as light salads, smoked salmon, and fresh goat cheese. 750ml bottle.
