The Glenlivet 21 Year Old Archive is an exceptional single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside region of Scotland, bottled at 43% ABV. Crafted at The Glenlivet distillery—established by founder George Smith, who received the first legal distilling license in the Livet valley in 1824—this expression represents the pinnacle of the Archive series.
What distinguishes this whisky is its pioneering triple cask finishing process. After extended maturation in traditional American oak casks, the spirit is finished in three prestigious cask types: first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks from Jerez, Spain, which impart rich dried fruit flavors and a deep amber hue; Tronçais oak Cognac casks from the forests of central France, which contribute caramelized pear, vanilla, and a refined spiciness; and Colheita Vintage Port casks from Portugal's Douro Valley, which add velvety layers of sultanas and nutmeg.
On the nose, luscious notes of caramelized pears and juicy sultanas intertwine with fragrant nutmeg and warming cinnamon. The palate is rich and syrupy, delivering dried apricots, chocolate-coated ginger, and Brazil nuts, with a long, warm finish of toasted hazelnuts, licorice, and dusty spices. Each batch is personally selected and approved by Master Distiller Alan Winchester.
Best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of room-temperature water to open up the fruit notes. Pairs beautifully with aged cheeses, dark chocolate desserts, duck confit, or foie gras.
