Mucinex DM Maximum Strength Extended Release Bi-Layer Tablets provide 12-hour relief from chest congestion and cough. Each tablet contains Guaifenesin 1200 mg (expectorant) and Dextromethorphan HBr 60 mg (cough suppressant) in a unique bi-layer tablet technology. One layer provides immediate release while the extended release layer ensures the medicine lasts for up to 12 hours.

This medication helps loosen phlegm and thin bronchial secretions to drain bronchial tubes and temporarily relieves cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation associated with the common cold. The tablets should not be crushed, chewed, or broken, and must be taken with a full glass of water.

Active ingredients per tablet: Dextromethorphan HBr 60 mg (cough suppressant), Guaifenesin 1200 mg (expectorant). Inactive ingredients include carbomer, copovidone, FD&C Blue No. 1 aluminum lake, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and silicon dioxide. For adults and children 12 years and older: take 1 tablet every 12 hours, not more than 2 tablets in 24 hours. Do not use for children under 12 years. Do not use if taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. Ask a doctor before use if you have persistent or chronic cough such as occurs with smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema, or if cough is accompanied by excessive phlegm. Stop use and ask a doctor if cough lasts more than 7 days, comes back, or is accompanied by fever, rash, or persistent headache. If pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a health professional before use.
