Brown Estate Chaos Theory is a bold, fruit-forward red blend from Napa Valley, crafted by Brown Estate Vineyards — Napa Valley's first Black-owned estate winery, established in 1996. The wine has become a signature expression of the estate, originally created as a one-off blend for the Premiere Napa Valley trade auction and evolving over more than 18 vintages into a celebrated annual release. Each vintage is a unique blend reflecting the character of that season, typically drawing from a rotating cast of varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petite Sirah, and Barbera.
The wine opens with a deep garnet color and a fragrant nose of maraschino cherry, red licorice, exotic citrus, rose garden, chamomile blossom, Italian leather, and creme de cassis, with nuances of cardamom, clove, cinnamon, vanilla, and graphite. On the palate it is full-bodied with a juicy, creamy mouthfeel and supple tannins, delivering flavors of blackberry, dark cherry, and plum. Recent vintages have been aged approximately 8–12 months in French and American oak, reaching around 14.5% alcohol by volume. The 2022 vintage received 93 points from Wine Enthusiast. Best enjoyed now through 2035, it pairs well with grilled meats, hearty pasta, aged cheeses, and rich stews.
