Château Cos d'Estournel 2018 is a prestigious Second Growth (Deuxième Grand Cru Classé) red Bordeaux from the Saint-Estèphe appellation on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, France. The blend consists of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged in 50% new French oak barriques, with an alcohol content of approximately 14.5%.
This wine presents a deep purple-black color with an intensely aromatic profile of crème de cassis, stewed plums, wild blueberries, and chocolate-covered cherries, accented by Sichuan pepper, star anise, clove oil, cedarwood, violets, and charcoal. The full-bodied palate is densely packed with taut, muscular black fruits and earthy layers, framed by super firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and wonderfully earthy.
Universally acclaimed by the world's leading wine critics, the 2018 vintage received 98 points from Wine Advocate, James Suckling, Vinous Media, and Jeb Dunnuck, along with 97 points from Decanter and 96 points from both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. A backward, tannic powerhouse with flawless balance and extraordinary aging potential, this wine is best enjoyed after 2027–2028 and can evolve for 40 to 50 years or more.
