A refined Pinot Noir from Rhys Vineyards, an acclaimed estate founded by Kevin Harvey in 2004 in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA of California. The wine is crafted from 100% estate-grown Pinot Noir sourced from three distinct high-elevation sites — Mt. Pajaro, Alpine, and Horseshoe vineyards — with elevations ranging from 400 to 1,610 feet. The appellation's cool climate, moderated by both the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, produces wines of exceptional finesse, complexity, and natural balance.
Winemaking follows a minimalist, gravity-fed approach in a cave facility, emphasizing terroir expression over winemaker intervention. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts, with 12% whole-cluster inclusion cold-soaked for five days and gently foot-trodden twice daily during fermentation. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak (25% new), with 15 of those months spent on the lees for added texture and depth. ABV: 13.2%. Imported by Skurnik Wines & Spirits.
On the nose, the wine offers bright aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry interwoven with earthy forest floor and a hint of spice. The palate is medium-bodied with layers of red fruit, subtle floral notes, and a touch of oak. Tannins are soft yet structured, acidity is vibrant and refreshing, and the finish is long and elegant with lingering berries and a delicate herbal quality. Pairs well with roasted chicken, grilled salmon, or mushroom risotto.
