The Croton (Codiaeum variegatum) is a bold tropical houseplant prized for its dramatically colored, glossy foliage. This mature specimen arrives in a 10-inch decorative pot, featuring large, thick, leathery leaves that display a vivid palette of yellows, oranges, reds, and deep greens — with color intensity increasing in brighter light conditions.
Indoors, crotons thrive in bright, indirect light and prefer temperatures between 60 and 85°F. They do best in fertile, well-drained soil kept consistently moist but never waterlogged. Moderate to high humidity suits them well, and occasional misting helps maintain vibrant foliage health in drier environments. Fertilize once or twice during the growing season to encourage lush growth. In frost-free climates (USDA Hardiness Zones 9–11), crotons can also be grown outdoors.
All parts of this plant are toxic if ingested — particularly the seeds — and the milky sap produced when stems are cut or damaged can irritate skin and eyes. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
