Tornatore Etna Rosso is a distinguished red wine from the Etna DOC appellation in Sicily, Italy, produced by Azienda Agricola F. Tornatore. Crafted primarily from 95% Nerello Mascalese and 5% Nerello Cappuccio — both native grape varieties of the Etna Volcano — the wine is vinified in concrete tanks and aged six months in large wooden barrels, followed by three months of bottle aging before release. The vineyards are situated at approximately 1,000 meters above sea level on the northern slopes of Mount Etna in Castiglione di Sicilia, where the volcanic soils and altitude impart distinctive character to the grapes.
The wine presents a light ruby red color and greets with an inviting aroma of red cherry, black cherry, and strawberry, accented by herbal, floral, and spicy notes. On the palate it is medium-bodied, smooth, and elegantly balanced with surprising fullness and persistent minerality, framing glossy tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is dry, juicy, and savory with lasting spice. The wine contains 13.5% alcohol and just 1.5 g/L residual sugar, making it pleasantly dry. It is best served at 18–20°C and benefits from a few hours of air.
Tornatore pairs well with tomato-based pasta sauces, roasted and boiled meats, sausages, meatballs, and oily fish such as smoked sardines. The Tornatore family's winemaking heritage on Etna dates to 1865, and the estate is currently headed by Giuseppe Tornatore.
