Herdade do Esporão Reserva Red is a DOC Alentejo red wine from one of Portugal's most celebrated estates. Herdade do Esporão encompasses nearly 700 hectares of organic vineyards and olive groves in the Reguengos sub-region of Alentejo, making it the largest organic estate in Portugal. The combination of poor, stony soils and a dramatic continental climate produces full-bodied yet elegant wines with distinctive character.

This Reserva Red is a blend of indigenous and international varieties — typically Alicante Bouschet, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional, Aragonez (Tempranillo), and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each variety is harvested separately, destemmed and crushed, then fermented in stainless steel, concrete tanks, or traditional marble lagares. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and is aged for 12 months in a combination of new (20%) and used (80%) American and French oak barrels.

The wine opens with aromas of black cherry, blackberries, ripe plums, spice, vanilla, dark chocolate, and hints of licorice and mint. On the palate it is rich and dense with powerful yet integrated tannins, deep berry fruit, and a long, food-friendly finish. It pairs well with grilled meats, lamb, aged cheeses, and hearty Portuguese stews.
