Jack Daniel's Bonded Tennessee Whiskey is a 100-proof (50% ABV) expression that follows the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, requiring distillation by a single distiller during a single season, maturation in a government bonded warehouse for at least four years, and bottling at 100 proof. This permanent addition to the Jack Daniel's lineup was released in Spring 2022 and ranked #1 on Whiskey Advocate's "Most Exciting Whiskies" of 2022.
The whiskey follows Jack Daniel's time-honored recipe of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye. It comes off the still at 140 proof and is dripped through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal held in giant wooden vats before water is added to reach 125 proof, then aged in #4 char oak barrels. The bottle design is inspired by the original 1895 Jack Daniel's bottle.
Tasting notes reveal layered flavors of caramel, brown sugar, maple sweetness, and rich oak with spice accents. The nose delivers fresh-baked banana nut bread, caramel, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and subtle cigar wrapper notes. The palate offers brown sugar, maple sweetness, nuttiness, banana, vanilla, and light cinnamon spice with minimal burn despite the higher proof. The finish is moderate in length with graham crackers, vanilla, brown sugar, barrel char, and oak notes.
