Guidalberto is the acclaimed second wine from Tenuta San Guido, the legendary Bolgheri estate responsible for producing Sassicaia, one of Italy's most iconic Super Tuscans. This Toscana IGT red wine is crafted from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, offering a more approachable and earlier-drinking expression of the estate's distinctive Tuscan character.
Aged for approximately 15 months in French oak barriques with a small proportion of American oak, then refined for an additional three months in bottle before release, Guidalberto displays a deep violet color with intense, long-lasting fruit aromas. The nose opens with ripe blackcurrants, dark cherries, and plums layered over notes of tobacco, chocolate, ground spices, and crushed rocks, with Mediterranean scrub nuances of juniper, rosemary, and earthy, humus undertones. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and dry, with ripe, silky tannins, elegant fruit freshness, and a long, balanced finish with graceful oak spice integration.
The 2022 vintage received 94 points from Robert Parker and 94 points from Wine Spectator, which praised its elegant structure, balance of black cherry, black currant, plum, tobacco, iron, and rosemary flavors, and a long, salty finish. Served best at cellar temperature, it pairs beautifully with grilled red meats, aged cheeses, and hearty pasta dishes. Suitable for drinking now or cellaring for several additional years.
