The Balvenie 16 Year Old French Oak is a distinguished Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from The Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland. This expression marks the distillery's first foray into French oak-finished single malts, bottled at 47.6% ABV (95.2 proof).

The whisky is first matured for sixteen years in American oak casks, building a foundation of sweet vanilla, honey, and warm spice. It is then transferred to casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes, a fortified wine from the Charentes vineyards made from unfermented grape juice and Cognac eau-de-vie. This French oak finish imparts a bright, vibrant character distinctive from classic Balvenie expressions.

On the nose, it is fragrant and floral with lotus and geranium flowers and a delicate touch of apple skin. The palate is bright and fruity, offering lemon zest, grapefruit, honey, stone fruit, gentle spice, and ginger with a pleasant underlying sweetness. The finish is long and elegant with lingering warmth and refined complexity.

The Balvenie is the only distillery in Scotland that still grows its own barley, operates traditional floor maltings, and retains both a resident coppersmith and a team of coopers on site. This exceptional whisky is sold in cases of six 750ml bottles.
