Michter's US★1 Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash is a limited release Kentucky whiskey that builds on the award-winning Michter's US★1 Sour Mash—the first American whiskey ever named "Whisky of the Year" by The Whisky Exchange in 2019. This expression takes that acclaimed base whiskey and ages it further in a second custom-made barrel, resulting in a uniquely layered and complex spirit.

The second barrel is assembled from 18-month air-dried wood and toasted using indirect heat rather than charred in the traditional manner. Multiple toast levels were evaluated by Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson before selecting the one that best showcases the whiskey's elegant character. The first maturation uses fire-charred new American white oak barrels, while the finishing barrel imparts additional depth and nuance.

Bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV) and produced in small batches, this is a limited release offered only periodically. On the nose, expect toffee and buttery vanilla with fragrant honey, milk chocolate, and a hint of orange peel. Mid-palate, toasty campfire notes emerge alongside cherry and warm spice.
