Kirkland Signature Gran Selezione Chianti Classico is a highly acclaimed Italian red wine from the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation in Tuscany, produced by Basilica Caffaggio. Made from Sangiovese grapes, this wine carries the prestigious Gran Selezione designation — the highest tier in the Chianti Classico classification, ranking above Riserva and standard Chianti Classico. Gran Selezione wines must be sourced from the estate's finest grapes and aged a minimum of 30 months, compared to 24 months for Riserva and 12 months for standard Chianti Classico.
The wine pours a deep ruby in the glass with earthy aromas of dried dark fruit, tobacco, and leather. On the palate, flavors of blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, and plum come together with full body, integrated tannins, and fresh acidity, finishing with notes of cigar box and black pepper. It has been consistently rated 93 points by CostcoWineBlog, placing it among the highest-rated wines in the Kirkland Signature portfolio. Vivino users rate it 3.8–3.9 out of 5 across multiple vintages, with the 2021 vintage earning the highest scores.
At Costco's price, this wine is considered an extraordinary value — comparable Gran Selezione bottles from other producers typically retail for $35 and up. Pairs beautifully with beef, veal, pasta with red sauce, pizza, cured meats, and Italian cuisine. Alcohol content is 14%. Contains sulfites.
