La Destinee de Clement V is a rich red wine from the renowned Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the Southern Rhone Valley of France, produced by Bernard Magrez, one of Bordeaux's most celebrated wine producers. Named in honor of Pope Clement V, the historical figure who established the papal court at Avignon and helped elevate the wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape to prominence, this wine pays tribute to the region's storied heritage.
The blend is composed primarily of Grenache (approximately 90%), with Syrah and Mourvèdre rounding out the remaining portion. The grapes are sourced from old vines averaging 45 years of age, which contribute depth and concentration to the wine. It presents deep ruby color with aromas of ripe raspberry, black cherry, garrigue, and hints of spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and fleshy with integrated tannins, expressive dark fruit, and a long, warming finish characteristic of the appellation.
Chateauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most prestigious appellations in France, subject to strict production regulations including low vine yields and minimum alcohol levels. This wine is well-suited for pairing with roasted lamb, beef, game birds, and aged cheeses, and has the structure to develop further complexity through 2030. Sold as a case of 12 x 750ML bottles.
