Ben Holladay Soft Red Wheat Missouri Straight Bourbon Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond is a rare wheat-forward bourbon that replaces rye with soft red winter wheat in its mash bill of 73% corn, 15% soft red winter wheat, and 12% malted barley. This distinctive grain choice produces a softer, sweeter character compared to traditional rye-based bourbons.
As a true Bottled-in-Bond expression, it is distilled, aged, and bottled at the same distillery under the federal Bottled-in-Bond Act, ensuring at least four years of aging — this bottling is aged 6 years — at 100 proof (50% ABV). The bourbon is matured in Missouri white oak barrels inside iron-clad rickhouses on-site at the Holladay Distillery in Weston, Missouri.
Founded in 1856, the Holladay Distillery is Missouri's oldest operating distillery and still stands on its original site, a property noted by Lewis and Clark in 1804 for its active limestone springs. The facility is operated by McCormick Distilling Company, one of the oldest distilling operations west of the Mississippi River.
On the nose, expect apricot, stone fruit, vanilla-infused oak, and graham cracker. The palate delivers toffee, charred oak, leather, fig, vanilla wafer, and red fruit with a semi-creamy mouthfeel. The finish brings mild dryness, prominent oak, and dark red fruits including black cherry, red currant, and prune.
