Château Mouton Rothschild is a Premier Cru Classé from the Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, France, and is recognized as one of the world's greatest wines. The estate is owned by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and encompasses 205 acres of vines planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (77%), Merlot (11%), Cabernet Franc (10%), and Petit Verdot (2%).
The wine displays an intense, deep black color with aromas of ripe fruit, nutmeg, blackberry, cherry, mint, and exotic spices. On the palate, it offers an ample, full, and refined experience with blackberry and cherry flavors lifted by spice notes. Generous, creamy, and well-rounded tannins provide structure, leading to a highly refined and exceptionally long finish.
In 1922, Baron Philippe de Rothschild introduced château bottling and built the famous 100-meter Grand Chai. The estate began its collection of artist-designed labels in 1945. In 1973, after a twenty-year effort, Baron Philippe secured a revision of the 1855 classification, officially recognizing Mouton as a First Growth. The estate's motto proudly declares: "First I am, second I was, I Mouton do not change."
