Château Haut-Brion is the oldest of Bordeaux's five First Growth estates, with vineyards established in the 1530s by the Pontac family. Located in Pessac-Léognan, south of the city of Bordeaux, it is the only First Growth in the Graves appellation—distinct from the Médoc estates of Lafite Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild, Latour, and Margaux. The estate was acquired by American Francophile Clarence Dillon in 1935 and remains family-owned.
This Bordeaux blend is typically composed of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. The wine offers complex aromatics of dark fruits, forest berries, and floral notes such as lilacs and violets, with underlying hints of scorched earth, smoked herbs, and minerality. The palate is full-bodied with a silky texture, fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and exceptional aging potential spanning several decades.
