Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a prestigious Second Growth (Deuxième Grand Cru Classé) estate from the Saint-Julien appellation in Bordeaux's Left Bank, established in 1720. The name "Beaucaillou" translates to "beautiful pebbles," referring to the large stones covering the vineyard's exceptional terroir. Under the stewardship of the Borie family for three generations, this iconic wine is crafted from a blend typically featuring 70-85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15-30% Merlot grown on 75 hectares of gravelly slopes near the Gironde estuary.
The wine undergoes slow aging in 75-100% new French oak barrels for 18-20 months, with approximately 10,000 cases produced annually. Known for its intense concentration, ripe tannins, supple textures, and unique harmony, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou requires at least 15 years of bottle age to reach its full potential and can age gracefully for 50 years or more. Recent vintages have received exceptional critical acclaim, with the 2019 vintage scoring 100 points and the 2022 vintage also achieving perfect scores.
Best served at 15.5°C (60°F) and pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes including beef, lamb, veal, duck, and game, as well as hearty fish courses like tuna and salmon, mushrooms, and aged cheeses.
