Chateau Pape Clement is a prestigious Grand Cru Classe red Bordeaux from the Pessac-Leognan appellation, with a history dating back to 1252. The estate is owned by Bernard Magrez and consulted by Michel Rolland since 1993. The red wine is a blend of approximately 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, sourced from 30 hectares of prime vineyard in Pessac planted on gravel, clay, and sandy soils.
The wine is whole-berry fermented in temperature-controlled wood vats and aged in approximately 40-65% new French oak barrels, including larger 400-liter formats. The style is modern, rich, and lush with intense concentration of ripe fruit, featuring characteristic notes of smoke, tobacco, dark cherries, espresso, licorice, and chocolate. Best vintages benefit from 10-15 years of aging and can develop over 50 years.
Serve at approximately 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Pairs well with veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, and roast chicken.
