Chateau Haut-Batailley is a Fifth Growth Pauillac estate from Bordeaux, France, producing one of the appellation's most elegant and well-valued red wines. The vineyard was created in 1942 when Chateau Batailley was divided between the two Borie brothers. In 2017, the Cazes family of neighboring Chateau Lynch-Bages purchased the property and has elevated wine quality significantly since.
The 41-hectare vineyard is planted to 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. The wine undergoes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by aging for up to 20 months in 40% new French oak barrels. Tasting notes across recent vintages highlight aromas of dark currants, tobacco, espresso, chocolate, and cedar, with a palate that is full-bodied, chewy, and concentrated. Best served at 15.5 degrees Celsius, it pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes, game, hearty fish, mushrooms, and Asian cuisine.
