Château Barde-Haut is a prestigious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru estate from Bordeaux, France, owned and operated by the Garcin-Cathiard family. Located on an elevated limestone plateau in the eastern portion of Saint-Émilion, the estate spans 17 hectares planted primarily with Merlot (approximately 75–80%) and Cabernet Franc (20–25%). The property is renowned as one of Saint-Émilion's most environmentally forward estates, featuring a fully green facility with solar panels, rainwater recycling, and a wind turbine — the first major Saint-Émilion estate to achieve this distinction.
The wine is vinified using gravity-fed transport throughout the cellar, with fermentation in a combination of temperature-controlled wooden vats, stainless steel tanks, and concrete vats. Malolactic fermentation is performed in French oak barrels, and the wine is aged for approximately 18 months in 80–100% new French oak, depending on the vintage. This results in a rich, elegant red wine with aromas of dark plum, black cherry, licorice, dried flowers, espresso, and crushed stone, with silky tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish.
The wine is best served at approximately 60°F (15.5°C) and pairs well with roasted and braised meats, lamb, duck, game, tuna, mushrooms, and aged cheeses. Young vintages benefit from 1–2 hours of decanting and typically reach peak maturity 8–22 years after the vintage.
