Château Siran is a prestigious red Bordeaux wine from the Margaux appellation on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, France. With origins dating to 1428, it is one of the oldest estates in Margaux and has been in the Miailhe family since 1858. The 25-hectare vineyard sits between Châteaux Dauzac and Giscours in southern Margaux, planted on gravel and sand soils with vines averaging 30 years old.
The wine is a classic Margaux blend of Merlot (46%), Cabernet Sauvignon (44%), Petit Verdot (9%), and Cabernet Franc (1%). The elevated proportion of Petit Verdot contributes a distinctive spicy character that sets Siran apart. Winemaking involves fermentation in stainless steel and concrete vats, followed by 12 months of aging in approximately 50% new French oak barrels. Annual production is around 10,000 cases. Since 2015, Hubert de Bouard of Château Angélus has served as consulting winemaker, further elevating quality.
Expect aromas and flavors of violets, black cherry, blackcurrant, blueberry, espresso, and cocoa with silky tannins and fresh acidity. Young vintages benefit from 1–3 hours of decanting. The wine reaches peak maturity between 10–22 years post-vintage and is consistently regarded as one of the best values in high-quality Margaux wine.
