Chateau Ormes de Pez is a distinguished Saint-Estephe Bordeaux red wine from the Left Bank of Bordeaux, France. Produced by the Cazes family, who also own the renowned Chateau Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, this estate has been crafting wines since the 18th century. The name "Ormes" refers to the elm trees that once graced the property, while "Pez" comes from the local hamlet where the vineyard is situated.
The 40-hectare vineyard is planted to approximately 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, grown on terroir composed of gravel, clay, and sand. The wine is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and aged for approximately 15 months in French oak barrels with around 50% new wood. It is produced by the same technical team behind Chateau Lynch-Bages, with approximately 18,000 cases made annually.
This medium-bodied Bordeaux blend offers a harmonious, spicy character with notes of black currants, cedar, tobacco, and earthy minerality. Wine critics have consistently rated recent vintages between 89 and 93 points, with the 2018 and 2019 vintages considered among the finest produced. Best enjoyed within 10 to 20 years of the vintage, it pairs excellently with classic meat dishes, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, and a variety of cheeses. Serve slightly cool at around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. This 750ML bottle is sold in cases of 12.
