The Kirkland Signature Sourdough Boule is a 2-pound artisan-style round loaf baked fresh in the Costco bakery. It features a beautifully browned, scored crust with a decorative lattice pattern and a light dusting of flour, giving it a rustic, handcrafted appearance that sets it apart from typical supermarket bread.
The loaf is leavened with a natural sour culture — not just sourdough flavoring — and incorporates dark rye flour, which contributes a subtle nutty depth and a light tan crumb color. The texture is dense and chewy with an open crumb structure featuring large air pockets. The flavor is tangy with a pleasant nuttiness and balanced saltiness. The bread gets softer and more fragrant toward the center of the loaf.
Packaging features perforated plastic bags that allow air circulation to preserve the crust's crispness. The long fermentation process gives this loaf an exceptional shelf life; when refrigerated and warmed before serving, it remains fresh and moist for several weeks. Slices near the center of the boule are long and wide, well suited for open-faced preparations or sandwiches.
Ingredients: Unbleached enriched flour (wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), water, sour culture, dark rye flour, and 2% or less of: wheat semolina, salt, cultured wheat flour, modified wheat starch, yeast extract, yeast, dough conditioners (ascorbic acid, enzymes), natural flavors. Contains wheat.
