Cartuxa Évora Vinho de Talha is a distinctive Portuguese red wine from the Alentejo region, produced by Fundação Eugénio de Almeida at the historic Cartuxa estate near Évora. This wine is crafted using the ancient "Talha" method — fermentation in traditional clay amphora (talha) vessels, a winemaking tradition in the Alentejo dating back thousands of years and recognized by UNESCO as part of Portugal's intangible cultural heritage.
The blend draws from indigenous Alentejo grape varieties including Aragonez (Tempranillo), Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet, and Touriga Nacional, grown on certified organic vineyards. The clay vessel fermentation imparts a distinctive earthy minerality, bright acidity, and a textured, slightly rustic character that sets it apart from conventionally produced wines. Expect aromas of ripe red cherry, dried herbs, earthy clay notes, and warm spice, with a medium-bodied palate, fine tannins, and a fresh, lingering finish.
Vinho de Talha wines are released on Saint Martin's Day (November 11th) each year, honoring the traditional calendar of Alentejo winemaking. This is a certified organic wine, made without the use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides in the vineyard.
