This extraordinary set brings together 48 bottles of Château Haut-Brion spanning every vintage from 1970 through 2017, offering a remarkable journey through nearly five decades of one of the world's most acclaimed wines. Priced at approximately $48,999 and available as a pre-sale item through Costco's Burbank, California Business Center, the collection represents roughly $1,000 or more per bottle — a notable value given Haut-Brion's prestige and scarcity on the open market.
Château Haut-Brion is located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation of Bordeaux and holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating winery in Bordeaux, with documented production dating to 1521. It is unique among left-bank châteaux in having been included in the original 1855 Bordeaux Classification alongside the Médoc First Growths. The estate is owned by Domaine Clarence Dillon and managed by Jean-Philippe Delmas. The vineyards sit just 5 kilometers from central Bordeaux on deep gravel soils over clay and sand, a terroir that imparts the wine's distinctive mineral character. The red wine blend is typically composed of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, with old vines averaging 36 years of age and some blocks approaching 90 years old.
The 48-bottle collection spans both legendary and classic vintages, including celebrated years such as 1982, 1989, 1990, 2000, 2009, and 2010. Haut-Brion consistently earns exceptional critical scores, often approaching or achieving perfection in its greatest years. Each bottle possesses extraordinary aging potential, with the wine recommended to be cellared for 12 to 50 years from the vintage date. Young vintages benefit from 2 to 4 hours of decanting, while older bottles require careful handling to remove sediment before serving.
