Domaine Masse Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise Pinot Noir is a classic red Burgundy from one of the region's well-regarded family estates. The domaine was founded in the late 19th century when Claude Masse, a cooper, began cultivating vines near Châlon-sur-Saône. Since 2000, his great-grandson Fabrice has managed the estate's 15 hectares of vineyards in the Côte Chalonnaise, a sub-region of Burgundy lying between the valleys of the Dheune and Grosne, with east-facing limestone slopes at altitudes of 250 to 350 metres.
The wine is made from old-vine Pinot Noir grapes that undergo cold maceration before fermentation to enhance aromatic finesse. It is then aged in barrel for 12 months, with 15% new oak. The result is a wine with aromas of plum and cherry fruit interwoven with subtle oak, and a palate of sweet fruit, soft tannins, and juicy acidity. Each case is sold in a 12-bottle format (12/750ml).
