J. Lohr Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon is one of Paso Robles' best-known Cabernets, presented here in an impressive 3.0-liter double magnum format. Drawn from J. Lohr's top sustainably farmed vineyards throughout the Paso Robles appellation in San Luis Obispo County, California, this wine showcases the region's ideal combination of intense sunshine, warm days, and cool ocean-influenced nights that produce richly concentrated Cabernet fruit with resolved tannins.

The blend is composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon (approximately 94-95%), rounded out with Petit Verdot, Malbec, and a touch of Cabernet Franc. Grapes are sourced from the Shotwell Vineyard in the cool, Templeton Gap-influenced El Pomar District, the high-elevation Beck Vineyard at 1,700 feet in the Creston District, and J. Lohr's ranches in the mountainous Adelaida District. After harvest, the wine is aged for 16 months in specially curated 225-liter French oak barrels to build its dense, velvety texture and ripe berry finish. The wine is dry with less than 1 g/L of residual sugar and carries 15% ABV.

On the nose, the wine opens with pleasing aromas of dark fruit, spice, chocolate, mint, and cedar. On the palate it delivers ample dark fruit and well-integrated oak, with a smooth, silky mouthfeel and firm, grippy tannins that provide excellent structure. The finish is long and dry with notes of chocolate and licorice. This wine is certified California Sustainable and has the structure to age gracefully for 10 to 15 years or longer. It pairs beautifully with rosemary-seasoned ribeye, garlic roasted potatoes, and other hearty red meat dishes.
