Orphan Barrel Castle's Curse is a 14-year-old single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the historic Teaninich Distillery, founded in 1817 in the Scottish Highlands. The distillery and neighboring Teaninich Castle overlook the shores of the Cromarty Firth, a Special Protection Area celebrated for its diverse aquatic wildlife. Selected casks were matured for 14 years in European oak, resulting in a 750mL bottle bottled at 47.4% ABV (94.8 proof) and imported by Diageo, New York, NY.
On the nose, this whisky reveals inviting aromas of tangerine, poached pear, sweet confectionary, and dried herbs. The palate delivers smooth notes of vanilla, red apple, and mint, leading to a long, satisfying finish with hints of oak and spice. It is a limited-edition release from Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Company, a Diageo project dedicated to recovering and bottling rare, forgotten casks of aged spirits.
The label pays homage to the legend of the Kelpie, a supernatural shape-shifting aquatic spirit — or "water-horse" — that symbolizes both the allure of water and Scotland's rich history of cultivating the land for barley. This artwork reflects the mystical character of the Highland distillery and its storied surroundings.
