Lagavulin 12 Year Cask Strength is an annual Special Release from Diageo, bottled at natural cask strength without dilution, chill-filtration, or added coloring. Each year's release carries a unique name and label design reflecting the distinctive character of that year's selected casks.

Lagavulin Distillery sits on the banks of Lagavulin Bay on the southern coast of Islay, Scotland. Dating back to 1816, the distillery is renowned for producing some of the most intensely peated single malt whisky in the world. The malted barley used at Lagavulin is exposed to peat smoke for up to twenty times longer than at typical Scottish distilleries, creating the signature bold, complex smokiness the brand is celebrated for. The spirit matures in second-fill American oak bourbon casks, which layer notes of vanilla and honey beneath the peat intensity.

Lagavulin employs the slowest distillation process of any Islay distillery — wash distillation lasts approximately five hours and spirit distillation approximately nine hours — giving the whisky its characteristic round edges and mellow depth beneath the coastal smoke. At 12 years old and bottled at natural cask strength, this expression delivers the full, undiluted power of the barrel.

Tasting notes reveal an intense aroma of peaty smoke, wood spices, and Earl Grey tea. On the palate, rich smoke and a briny coastal tang are balanced by hints of vanilla and honeyed oak. The finish is long and complex, with sweet caramel and dark fruit emerging through bold peat and smoke. Previous releases have earned Double Gold Medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
