The trunk is crafted from corten steel — the same all-weather steel used in roofing and shipping containers — which maintains a beautifully weathered, surface-rusted finish that darkens subtly over time without delaminating or deteriorating like standard mild steel. The palm fronds feature a variegated patina finish. The sun will not fade or peel the finish, the structure will not corrode, and no ongoing maintenance is required. Individual fronds are replaceable if damaged, and the entire sculpture is built to withstand high winds. It is also fire-safe.

The sculpture is freestanding but must be anchored to a concrete pad for wind security; four concrete anchor bolts are included. The required concrete pad dimensions are 30 inches x 30 inches x 10 inches deep, with the base plate measuring 24 inches x 24 inches. Fronds drop into the head with no tools needed for assembly.
