Vinhas de Xisto Reserva is a Portuguese red wine produced by Monte da Ravasqueira (Sociedade Agrícola D. Diniz) from the Douro DOC appellation in northern Portugal. The wine's name — "Vinhas de Xisto," meaning "Schist Vineyards" — reflects its origin in the region's distinctive slate and schist soils, which impart pronounced minerality and firm structure.
This Reserva is a traditional Douro red blend composed of approximately 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz, and 10% Sousão — the classic noble grape varieties of the Douro Valley. The wine opens with complex aromas of dark plum, blueberries, coffee, and dried spices, with herbal and balsamic undertones and hints of vanilla and mint. On the palate it is full-bodied with ripe, chewy tannins, blue fruit and spice flavors, and a dry, structured finish. The wine benefits from further bottle aging and improves with cellaring.
It has earned 91-point scores from Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and James Suckling. Pairs well with fatty meat dishes, roasted beef, lamb, game such as venison, and aged cheeses. Alcohol content is approximately 13.5–14% ABV. Contains sulfites.
