Famiglia Cotarella's Sodale is a 100% Merlot from the Lazio IGP appellation in central Italy, produced at Tenuta Montiano in the hills of Montefiascone and Castiglione in Teverina. The Merlot grapes are sourced from the same 35-hectare estate vineyards that produce the family's flagship Montiano wine, grown on sedimentary, clayey-calcareous soils at approximately 300 meters above sea level and harvested by hand.
After fermentation, the wine is transferred to French oak barriques where malolactic fermentation takes place, followed by nine months of barrel aging. The result is a deep ruby red wine with purple reflections, offering aromas of red fruit and sweet spices in harmony with vanilla and oak notes. On the palate it is round, full-bodied, and harmonious with well-integrated sweet tannins and a long, balanced finish.
The name "Sodale" derives from Ancient Rome, where it meant "member of a partnership" — a reflection of the fraternal spirit that unites the Cotarella family across generations. Famiglia Cotarella has been producing this wine since 2002. It is best served at 10–12°C and pairs well with roasted meats, game, and aged cheeses. Each bottle is 750ML.
